Studio Time

The past couple of weeks, I have spent some time in different studios, working on different projects, and I have found out a lot of new things about the process of recording not only vocals, but also about live band recordings and individual instrumental overdubs.

Recently, I had the honor of being invited to sing on the album of an amazing, prolific guitar player named Prasanna, who melds together his background of South Indian classical music with his love of contemporary jazz and rock.  He had already been in the studio with his group consisting of vocalist Shalini, pianist Vijay Iyer, trumpeter Dave Douglas, saxophonists Rudresh Mahanthappa and David Binney, bassists Mike Pope and Bill Urmson, drummers Rodney Holmes and Mauricio Zottarelli and more. The album will come out in early 2010. It was quite an experience to see how other band leaders delegate their precious time in the studio.  Oh, and also this music is incredible! Check out his website at www.guitarprasanna.com.

My own recording project has been going well, yet I am still in the midst of making some post-prouction decisions.  Once the record is on its merry way forward, I will be announcing the release date and inevitable PARTY!! stay tuned….
